Driving Sustainable Progress: Our New Recycling Partnership With Preston Plastics

We’re committed to operating as a sustainable business and continually reducing the environmental impact of our operations. As part of this ongoing green initiative, we have partnered with Preston Plastics, a leading UK specialist in recycling post-industrial plastics, to ensure our plastic roll ends are fully recovered and reprocessed instead of becoming waste.

Transforming Roll-End Waste Into Reusable Material

Our aluminium barrier foil rolls are protected by large, durable plastic roll ends that help prevent damage during storage and handling. These components play an important role within our operations, but once they have served their purpose, they can contribute to unnecessary plastic waste if not responsibly managed.

To address this, all of our plastic roll ends are now sent directly to Preston Plastics for recycling. Using advanced shredding, melting and pelletising technology, they convert these protective blocks into high-quality recycled plastic pellets. Manufacturers then use these pellets as a sustainable raw material, meaning our plastic waste is effectively reintegrated into the circular economy.

This shift not only reduces the volume of waste we generate but also directly supports the wider industry’s transition away from virgin plastics.

Supporting a Green Initiative Through Responsible Recycling

The recycling process at Preston Plastics is designed to maximise resource recovery while minimising environmental impact. Once collected, the roll ends are sorted and shredded before being melted down and extruded into clean, consistent pellets suitable for reuse. This transformation ensures valuable plastic material remains in circulation rather than ending up in landfill or being incinerated.

Choosing a UK-based recycling partner also reduces transportation emissions and supports the growth of domestic environmental infrastructure—both of which are essential elements of a sustainable business strategy.

Additionally, this initiative strengthens our existing environmental commitments. As part of our ISO 14001 accredited environmental management system, we continually seek new ways to reduce waste and improve resource efficiency. Our partnership with Preston Plastics directly supports those goals by providing a practical, measurable improvement in how we handle industrial plastics.

A Meaningful Step Toward a More Sustainable Future

Our collaboration with Preston Plastics demonstrates the real difference that thoughtful, responsible waste management can make. By converting our roll ends into reusable pellets, we are reducing landfill contributions, lowering reliance on virgin materials, and helping to build a more circular, low-carbon supply chain.

This is just one of the many green initiatives we are advancing as part of our long-term sustainability strategy. We will continue exploring new opportunities to minimise our environmental footprint and enhance our role as a responsible, forward-thinking manufacturer.

At Protective Packaging Limited, sustainability is more than a goal — it’s a commitment we act on every day.
