Away from my procurement duties at Protective Packaging, I am a keen runner around the West Didsbury area of Manchester.
I felt I needed a goal to keep me focused on my fitness, now my football boots have been hung up! I was asked to participate in the Leeds half marathon with friends. I accepted the challenge of this gruelling 13-mile run and took the opportunity to raise money for The British Heart Foundation at the same time.
The British Heart Foundation was my choice of charity as my grandfather had a triple heart bypass and also I know friends who have lost loved ones through heart disease.
Sunday 8th May was the big race and I felt in good shape. The course is a road race through the suburbs of Leeds and has some colossal inclines which I managed to tackle. I felt ok and was going well after 8 miles, however, my legs were starting to wobble slightly 10 miles into the race. Fortunately, through my determination, I finished the race in 2hrs 5 mins.
I raised £620 and would like to thank those who sponsored me for their kind generosity to this worthy charity.
